The Literific

Literific Round-Up

The Literary & Scientific Society, known as the Literific, is the debating society at the Queen’s University of Belfast. The Literific was founded by E.L. Godkin in 1850, making it the oldest and first student society at Queen’s. Today it remains the paragon of  free speech in Northern Ireland.

Weekly debates are held on Thursday evenings during term-time and there are special debates and social events throughout the  year. Check our our term card and calendar for more information.

Full society membership is open to all students and staff of the university. Other forms of membership are available for alumni and students at other institutions. Anyone interested in joining the society, please email secretary@literific.org.
